Chattahoochee Valley Community College will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, recognizes the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
The college joins communities across the nation in recognizing the significance of Juneteenth as a time to reflect on freedom, equality, and the contributions of African Americans throughout history.
CVCC will resume normal operations on Monday, June 22.
